Gnocchi with Truffle

Australian Black truffles season has started! Therefore I decided last week to buy a truffle at work from our very first batch of the season and eat it with gnocchi. I toyed with the idea of making the gnocchi myself, but bought some fresh ones from the deli just in case I was gonna be lazy… and I seem to know myself well, since as the day progressed, all my good intentions of home-made gnocchi flew by the window! Tss tss tss…

Shanghai Dumpling – Ashfield

Well it’s time for another of my favourite Dumpling places, and this one is bringing us to Ashfield, on Liverpool Road, also known as “Little Shanghai”. I have also seen it called very appropriately the “Dumpling Belt” on this very good food blog. Since M.’s brother and his lovely wife moved to Ashfield a couple of years ago, we have come to get a bit familiar with the area and appreciate its vast offer of Chinese restaurants and food shops. We now try to take the train early every time we visit M.’s family in order to squeeze in some nice Shanghai food. The restaurant we always come back to is: Shanghai Dumpling.

La Chandeleur in June (Crêpes Day)

Crêpes crêpes crêpes… I could eat a dozen of those little suckers in a row, they are so addictive! In France they constitute an event in itself. Indeed, every year on the 2nd day of February takes place in French homes the Chandeleur, the Crêpes Day. This  celebration initially has a Christian origin, when Mary went to present her newborn Jesus to the temple 40 days after his birth. It then evolved as the celebration of light (the light brought by the Messiah), symbolized by a candle (candela): la Chandeleur.

Zucchini and Blue cheese Soufflé

There is nothing quite like a soufflé to impress your guests at a dinner party: if you succeed in getting that big fluffy cheesy dough to raise high enough, it’s a guaranteed Wow effect! It is also a dish that both meat-eaters and vegetarians can agree on, so I don’t think twice about it for tonight’s dinner.
